Directions to the Berkhamsted Foot Clinic

Berkhamsted Foot Clinic is located in Dower Mews, just behind 108 High Street. Arrive at 108 High Street (Landmark – Gatsby / Rex Cinema with black parasol outside).

Diagonally opposite the Gatsby, between Red Squirrel Brewery shop and Dower House (green building) you will find Dower Mews.

Drive into Dower Mews to the end of the road and turn left, park in either parking bay where you see the green Berkhamsted Foot Clinic private parking signs at the front of the building. Press the foot clinic button by the door to gain access. I look forward to seeing you.

Q:  How do I know if my podiatrist is qualified?

A:  Podiatry and chiropody are protected titles in law and only those who are registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) are legally entitled to use them. This offers greater protection to the public with the assurance that practitioners have met the standards set by the HPC, such as assessing patients’ feet and explaining a diagnosis before the commencement of any treatment; have continually maintained their knowledge through Continual Professional Development and are able to practice lawfully, safely and effectively.

Q:  To what level are the Clinic's practitioners trained?

All practitioners at the clinic are trained to degree level, they are HCPC registered and are members of the country’s leading professional body, the Society of Chiropodists & Podiatrists.

Q:  What exactly are Podiatrists?

A:  “Podiatrists are highly skilled health professionals who have been trained to prevent, diagnose, treat and rehabilitate abnormal conditions of the feet and lower limbs. They also prevent and correct deformity, keep people mobile and active, relieve pain and treat infections”. (Society of Chiropodist & Podiatrist 2009).

Q:  What can I expect on my first visit to the Berkhamsted Foot Clinic?

A:  When you first contact the Clinic, Debbie will arrange a suitable mutually convenient appointment for consultation or treatment at the clinic (daytime / weekend). Please allow up to 45 minutes for your first appointment where medical history, assessment and examination is conducted (circulation and sensation). For further visits please allow 30-45 minutes dependent on your treatment requirements.  All medical history in information provided will be held strictly as private and confidential under the terms of the ICO registered data protection requirements.

Your concerns or conditions will be discussed and treatment options offered to provide a solution or resolution.  Treatment may commence with your consent, using instruments sterilised to clinical standard guidelines assuring optimum infection control.

Q:  What sort of conditions are treated at the clinic?

A:  Conditions which can be treated at the Clinic include general Chiropody, Diabetic foot care, corn and callus treatment, ingrown toenails, fungal nail / skin infections and verrucae virus.  Additionally a range of biomechanical problems can be treated including painful conditions such as plantarfasciitis, bursitis, heel spurs, Achilles tendonitis and neuroma pain; if in doubt please contact the clinic for further advice or information.

A general Chiropody treatment includes:
·    Relaxing foot bath
·    Nail cutting and file, reduction of thickened nails if necessary
·    Hard skin (callus) reduction and file to smooth
·    Corn removal
·    Application of foot cream
